As well as being the location of our shop, Worthing is very much our home.

We feel it is really important to be involved in the local community and to support other local initiatives and independent businesses. We have been involved in the
Tourism Industry Forums, the On Your Doorstep campaign and have had positive discussions with the council about how Worthing can be promoted as a visitor destination for people interested in arts and crafts as we have seen how this has really developed in Worthing in the time we have been running the shop. We regularly signpost people to the other arts and craft venues in Worthing such as the East Beach studios and other galleries. We also regularly promote local community events such as the Sundowners and the Tide of Light.

Worthing Open Houses
Since opening we have supported the Worthing Open Houses event annually, either by being a part of the trail, or when rules precluded us, by placing an advert in the brochure, and by acting as a brochure distribution point.

We are very pleased to say that for 2016 we are very much a part of the Trail once again.

Local community networks
We are active supporters of Networth which is an informal meeting space for local voluntary groups, and businesses.
Belinda also takes part in the monthly 'cash mob' which supports local businesses by encouraging people to meet in a local independent coffee shop and spend £5 in a local independent business.

Sponsorship
We have sponsored races in the Worthing Rowing Club Regatta.
We were one of the early sponsors of the 'Tide of Light'.
Keeping in touch with John’s roots, we sponsor a beer at the Keswick Beer Festival on an annual basis.

Charity
We have a counter collection box from Shoreham Lifeboat Station – a fitting charity for the shop to support.
We have supported fundraising for the Sussex Multiple Sclerosis Treatment Centre through their fashion show and pampering events.
We have supported the local social enterprise 'Jewellery 4 Enterprise' which aims to provide grants to support women in business.
In addition some of the artists and makers who we sell for use their art to raise funds for charities so our sales also contribute to this
We are proud to support the Share the Warmth scheme through the sales of our exclusive
Sunny Worthing T shirts.

Other
We provided the Town Centre Initiative with heavily discounted handmade Sunny Worthing bunting to support the Worthing Journal led initiative to decorate the seafront ladies toilets.

We have provided raffle prizes to support a number of local charities and events.

Keeping it Local
Where possible we try to use local suppliers for craft materials and other goods and services we need to run the business. The fact that our artists are local, or have close links t the area, means that money spent in Inspired by the Sea tends to stay in the local area, thus contributing significantly to the local economy.
“Inspired by the Sea is playing an important part in supporting local artists and makers, drawing together like-minded local people - for me, getting to know many of the other exhibitors has been a real bonus. And when a tourist or resident buys something from Inspired by the Sea, whoever's work it is, it's nice to know that the customer is supporting the local economy and taking home something that really has been made in Worthing.

“I wanted to work with Inspired by the Sea because, first and foremost, they are a business that supports Worthing and reflects the best of the town. Their dealings with suppliers has been full of integrity and a desire to make the business work for everyone.”
